Hi.

During the pandemic, I used my journalism degree and took to blogging. Not doing so much of that currently as work in the beauty + music worlds open up.

Shop Black Owned Businesses

MESSLH

Happy Black History Month! Today I am sharing some of my favorite black owned shops.

My favorite jewelry designer: ZYL Collection

I am very sensitive to different metals and have always struggled with jewelry. I wouldn’t be able to wear earrings for longer than a couple hours without getting irritated. That all became solved when I stumbled upon gorgeous jewelry at a farmers market. ZYL is the best jewelry line. I could not recommend her wrap earrings enough. I have a few pairs, but the lightening bolts are the ones I wear most often. She has an etsy shop, or if you are local to LA, she is at Brentwood and Playa Vista Farmers Markets every week!

My favorite hair brand: Briogeo

Briogeo has a lot of great products, but it has my absolute fave deep conditioning treatment called Don’t Despair, Repair! Super hydrating, smells fantastic, an overall bomb hair mask.

My favorite clothing brand: Mess in a Bottle

MESS is such a cool brand, combining powerful messages on everything from t-shirts to luxe bags. Their apparel is the epitome of comfort and while you wear it, it magically makes you feel empowered. In the picture above, I am wearing one of my top shirts from them.

My favorite lingerie brand: Savage x Fenty

Savage x Fenty is so good, I might have a slight addiction. Leave it to Rihanna to put out an amazing brand. I think I own the entire sleepwear line. With Valentines Day around the corner, it’s definitely worth grabbing something to try out the brand.

Favorite book: The Vanishing Half

The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett is one of the best books I read in 2020. I recommend it to anyone that loves a book that makes it hard to put down. It is a beautifully written tale about race, family and society. Throughout the novel there are so many twists and different ways Bennett takes the story, it is truly remarkable.
