Hi.

During the pandemic, I used my journalism degree and took to blogging. Not doing so much of that currently as work in the beauty + music worlds open up.

Emo Without the "E": MCR

Welcome To The Black Parade back to another installment of Emo Without the “E” (aka Maybe Ok)

This time we are highlighting the emo legends that make up the band My Chemical Romance. After breaking up in 2013, they reunited last year. Incidental to 2020 their tour was postponed, but they did play a show in Los Angeles last December. The show sold out four minutes after going on sale and ticket sales grossed a new record for the venue. Needless to say people were eager to see them after they hadn’t been together for seven years.

At the show the crowd was surprisingly young. Thanks to streaming services, My Chem has a whole fan base of kids that weren’t around before their break. The last time I had seen them live was in 2011 in Chicago. The crowds for each were very similar once the music began, but prior to the start of the reunion show the energy was unlike anything I have ever seen.

People from all around the world came to town to see them live one more time.

Gerard Way’s* voice is as on point as if it were the 2000’s and he can get the crowd just as hyped. He has been the lead in the soundtrack of 2020. It will be nice to scream out their songs next year at a live show especially after the year we have had. Until then:

“We’ll carry on…”**
